Sonya Martin worked in public human resources in a California community college environment for more than fifteen years and served in several human resources capacities; technical staff member, manager and acting director.
In her many years of service in the human resources field, she had direct accountability for implementing and executing a variety of compensation and classification studies, creating, utilizing and evaluating multiple hiring, testing, recruitment & selection, interviewing techniques and methods and conducting job analysis addressing the community college staffing needs. Sonya has extensive experience in the formulation, administration and evaluation of a variety of testing instruments such as assessment centers, multiple choice written examinations, in-basket examinations, technical projects, performance examinations, and behavioral interviews.
Sonya has extensive experience in the planning and implementation of classification studies; including identifying a time frame and project plan, implementing and executing interviewing techniques and formalizing a methodology for analyzing the data to identify class families, create job descriptions, and prepare recommendations.
She has worked closely with individuals employed in a wide range of occupational groups, including senior level vice presidents, managers, information technology professionals, secretarial and administrative assistants, and grounds, custodial and maintenance personnel.
Sonya is skilled in preparing comprehensive statistical, narrative and summary reports and making oral presentations to board members and commission members.
Sonya was granted a Master’s degree in organizational development from Antioch University, which integrates academic and experiential learning.
