Jeanie Cockell

 
 

Jeanie Cockell, Nova Scotia, has been working as an educational and organizational consultant since 1999. Her workshop and conference presentation topics include team building, Appreciative Inquiry, dealing with difficult people, diversity issues, soul and the workplace, leadership (skills, courage, women's, soul, social change), communication skills, presentation and instructional skills, adult learning, math without fear, and creativity. Jeanie has been certified by Company of Experts.net as both an Appreciative Inquiry Facilitator and an Appreciative Inquiry Facilitator Training (AIFT©) Trainer.

Her consulting work is based on the expertise that she developed and continues to explore as an educator and as a formal/informal leader, as well as the theoretical/research background she developed in doing her MA thesis on "Power and Leadership: A Perspective from College Women" (1993). Jeanie's areas of consulting expertise include team building, organizational change, mediation, facilitation, research, project management, and teacher/trainer education. She has the ability to facilitate all types of diverse groups to enable the individuals within the groups to work cooperatively and creatively with one another. Recently she designed and implemented a theoretical model, "Creating and Nurturing Learning Teams."

Jeanie has been an educator since 1972, with experience teaching high school mathematics and French, and college adult basic education mathematics, computer science, English as a second language and courses in the British Columbia Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, Diploma in Adult Education, Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education and Trainer Development Certificate. Her background includes 11 years of formal administrative experience.

At a British Columbia community college, Jeanie was the mathematics department head, associate dean of academic/adult basic education/adult special education programs. At the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education Training and Technology, she was Project Officer for the Adult Basic Education Transitions Project.

Since 1978, Jeanie also has been an informal leader on a variety of college and provincial committees, volunteer boards, and as facilitator/trainer/presenter.

Jeanie has a B.A. in mathematics and an M.A. in higher education, both from the University of British Columbia (UBC). She also has an Ed.D. in educational leadership and policy from UBC.
